Getting a weak statement from your doctor could result in denial of your claim.

Many Social Security claims are denied. If the opposition picks up on the slightest discrepancy in your case, you could lose. When in the battle for winning your disability claim, most of the strongest evidence comes from medical documents. So not only is it important that you have these documents, but it needs to be valid and should not include any “generally insufficient statements.”

What is a “generally insufficient statement” you may ask? It’s what some disability insurance carriers have termed for when your doctor fills out your form with weak statements that doesn’t explain your condition. Some examples of weak statements made by doctors include:

  • “Claimant is totally disabled”

  • “Claimant is temporarily totally disabled”

  • “Claimant is unable to do any activity”

  • “Claimant cannot work”

  • “Claimant off work until MM/DD/YYYY”

In fact, all of the above statements were taken directly from a claim manual of an insurance carrier.

It’s also important to remember that although not everyone needs to hire an attorney, doing so can save your case. Statistics show that a disability claimant who is represented by a lawyer is twice as likely to be approved as without an attorney.
