Sharon Stone Sued for Firing Employee that was Hurt on the Job

Posted on April 29th, 2013

Sharon Stone, an actress famous for her roles in “Basic Instinct,” “Total Recall” and “Casino,” is being sued for firing a maid that injured her back while grocery shopping for the actress. Angelica Castillo is seeking damages for forcing her to complete strenuous tasks after being injured and then fired after she sought time off to rest her injury.

Despite Castillo’s doctor ordering a “brief period of bed rest,” Stone ordered her to continue working that same day. Castillo was advised to refrain from any heavy lifting during her bed rest, but Stone instructed to continue regular duties, which included “lifting and moving heavy items as part of cleaning the residence.” The suit also alleges that other employees of Stone were instructed to abstain from helping Castillo.

Because of her injuries, Castillo performed her duties more slowly, which resulted in Stone using derogatory language including “crazy” and “stupid.”

This is not the first time Stone has been in the spotlight for bad treatment of an employee. Last May, a former housekeeper and nanny for Stone, Erlinda T. Elemen, also sued Stone. Elemen accused Stone of firing her for accepting overtime pay. She also noted that she was subjected to offensive remarks about her Filipino heritage and religious beliefs.
