Law enforcement in the Wichita, Topeka, Garden City and Hutchinson area will be strictly enforcing the term ‘Click It or Ticket.’ Beginning May 20, the campaign begins and will run through June.
Citizens can expect to be pulled over if seen not wearing their safety belts and likely fined. In a news release by the Wichita Police Department it is stated that “All occupants must be appropriately restrained. Law enforcement officers can stop vehicles and issue tickets when they observe front seat occupants, or children under the age of 14, riding without proper restraint. Occupants, ages 14 and over, are cited individually.”
The campaign is aimed to reduce the number of preventable deaths. Since 98 percent of crash occupants who don’t suffer injuries are belted in, it’s a mystery why anyone wouldn’t buckle up. The Wichita Police Department noted their commitment to aggressively ticketing any traffic violation, from not buckling up, to texting and driving.
