Many Wichita mothers drop their little ones off at daycare before they go to work. They say goodbye and return to pick their kids up a few hours later. But what happens during that time? Does a system designed to take care of children have gaps that result in tragedies? That’s what one Wichita couple says after suing a Wichita day care where their son died.
Brock and Christina Mosier have filed a wrongful death suit against the child care provider that was taking care of their son. They claim the day care’s negligence resulted in the death of their son, Bryce Mosier.
Karin M. Patterson, of Karin’s Kids in north Wichita, was the licensed child care provider that the Mosier’s left their 5-month-old-son with in August of 2011. Patterson has not responded for comment on the lawsuit.
Bryce’s autopsy report determined he died of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Despite the Mosier’s instructions not to place Bryce on his stomach for naps, the lawsuit alleges that Patterson ignored these instructions and placed the baby on soft bedding. She also failed to monitor him appropriately while he slept.
After launching the investigation, numerous documents have been collected by the Mosier’s that show prior complaints against Patterson and multiple violations noted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
