Top Tips for Keeping Children Under 2 Safe in a Car Seat
As a parent all you want to do is keep your child safe. Follow these guidelines to help you ensure that your child is safe in the car.
The best way to keep your child safe is to keep them in a rear facing seat as long as possible. Before you change the seat rear facing your child should be at least 12 months or 20 pounds.
The chest clip should be adjusted at armpit level.
The shoulder straps should be positioned through the slots at or below your child’s shoulders.
When locking the car seat into the car you should use either the seat belt or the latch system but not both at the same time.
Make sure that the car seat is not expired. The expiration date should be stamped on the seat. A seat usually expires 6 years from the date manufactured.
If you buy a used car seat make sure you know the full history of the seat. Never buy a seat that has been in a car accident.
Make sure to have your car seat checked by someone that is certified to do so.
