A celebration gone wrong has left groom-to-be Brian Bond without his bride or best man. Lindsay Stewart and Mark Lennon were both lost in the Hudson River after the speedboat crashed into a barge. The bodies were later found over the next few days.
The speedboat was being driven by a friend of the groom, Jojo John, who is was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter and three counts of second-degree vehicular assault while still in his hospital bed. Police suspect John was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
Neither Stewart nor Lennon were wearing life vests when found.
Authorities are investigating the barge to ensure lighting was working properly. Although it is believed the lights were working correctly, it was still difficult to see at night.
The potential for a wrongful death lawsuit is high, with the families likely seeking compensation for medical or funeral costs. In addition, John faces a manslaughter charge, which refers to an accidental killing as a result of recklessness, negligence, or a misdemeanor of some degree.
