Coffeyville Infant Loses Leg to Family Pet

Posted on August 30th, 2013

A vicious pit bull attack led to a two-day-old infant losing a leg.

Baby Ariona had just arrived home with parents Sorena and Justin Frostad when their pet pit bull attacked Ariona through the fence. Although doctors attempted to reattach the leg, Ariona was simply too small.

Police have put down the pit bull, but the Frostad’s have four more pit bulls. Police noted that all five dogs were aggressive. Police also stated that the couple could face charges.

Ariona is expected to be able to return home in two weeks. She will be fitted with a prosthetic leg at nine months old.

Coffeyville is now considering a ban on pit bulls and the city commission will be discussing it at their next meeting.

This unfortunate story is a reminder to all parents how dangerous animals, even family pets, can be to small children. Although pets can be great part of your family, they can also be a danger without the proper supervision and understanding of the pet. Don’t let a tragedy like this happen to your family.
