Tire stores across the country have devised a plan to make the company profits. Unsuspecting car owners would purchase what they believed to be a new tire and only a few days or weeks later, buyers got in accidents or experienced a tire explosion. Unsurprisingly the tire shop would receive quite a few angry phone calls and after investigation, it was found that the shop was reselling old tires pulled off of cars.
So far, no deaths have been reported from such an incident. However, hundreds of car accidents are caused from tire explosions every year. Some accidents aren’t a result of used tires that are sold as new, but rather an older model that isn’t reliable. Both used and older model tires can be quite dangerous on the road. Despite the exterior look of the tire, internal degradation will quickly lead to a blow up.
It is currently legal for tire shops to sell older model tires as new. So consumers are encouraged to inspect the tire for a date of manufacturing before making a purchase decision. Before you try to save a buck by buying a used or older model tire, think of the consequences that could entail.
